VIDEO GAME DESIGN COURSES @ BCTC

Courses:

Please note that there are two paths to get your degree in video-game-design:

  • Creative/artistic: the IMD path
  • Programming/technical: the CIT path

Thus, all video-game-design courses at BCTC may be listed as EITHER a CIT course OR listed as an IMD course. Rest assured that the video-game-design classes themselves are all the same, regardless of which track you choose. The differences between the paths comes from the other courses required by either the IMD program or the CIT program. The eight video-game-design courses are, in order that they should be taken:

Year One, Fall (August - December)

  1. IMD/CIT 124 - Introduction to Game Development
  2. IMD/CIT 221 - Computer Graphics (for Video Games)

Year One, Spring (January - May)

  1. IMD/CIT 272 - Game Design Theory
  2. IMD/CIT 222 - 3D Modeling (for Video Games, using Maya)

Year Two, Fall (August - December)

  1. IMD/CIT 273 - Game Production (the Unity-Engine)
  2. IMD/CIT 223 - 3D Animation (for Video Games, using Maya)

Year Two, Spring (January - May)

  1. IMD/CIT 274 - Seminar in Game Development (hands-on experience in creating your game)
  2. One elective, chosen from the CIT or IMD programs, or humanities, etc as approved by the Video Game Design program at BCTC.
